Tampa Bay: Homeister heats up

Email

OLDSMAR, Fla. - Jockey Rosemary Homeister Jr. came to life last Thursday when she rode four winners on the 10-race program. Homeister Jr., who gave birth to her first child, daughter Victoria Rose, four months ago, now has 10 winners through Saturday’s program.

Perhaps the most impressive performance of the four winners was the effort turned in by One Hot Hand in the seven-furlong sixth race. A 2-year-old daughter of Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Macho Uno, One Hot Hand looked seasoned and professional in her second start, stalking the early leaders then slipping through along the rail turning for home to gain the lead before drawing off for a decisive four-length win.

One Hot Hand could be even more at home if Hall of Fame trainer Jonathan Sheppard moves her to the turf. Her mother, Mttens, was a five-time winner on the grass and One Hot Hand was the fourth winning foal from that mare. One of One Hot Hand’s sisters, Fur Lined, has three wins on the turf during her career.
