Tampa Bay: Graded winners head Endeavour

Tom Keyser
Zagora, with Javier Castellano riding, wins the Diana.

OLDSMAR, Fla. - Graded stakes winners Zagora and Keertana top nine probables pointing for the Endeavour Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on the Tampa Bay Downs turf on Saturday’s Sam. F. Davis undercard. Zagora won the Grade 1 Diana at Saratoga last summer, and would be making her first start since September. She came off a similar layoff in last year’s Hillsborough here and led late before coming up a neck short.

Keertana won 4 of 5 last season by May, including a trio of Grade 3 stakes, then went to the sidelines. She has been training in serious fashion for trainer Tom Proctor for this return.

Florida Oaks looks promising

The presence of two graded stakes winners, More Than Love and Northern Passion, among the probables for the Florida Oaks on Saturday spices up that race, which is now contested on the turf after having been run on dirt in previous years.

Customer Base, 11th in the Juvenile Fillies Turf and fifth in the Golden Rod at Churchill Downs in her last two starts, is being pointed for the Florida Oaks by Proctor. As of Sunday, seven other fillies were pointing for the 1 1/16-mile turf race, according to Tampa’s stakes coordinator, Gerry Stanislawzyk.
