Sneaking Uponyou, with Huber Villa-Gomez up, wins the Sprint Stakes on Florida Cup Day.

OLDSMAR, Fla. - On an historic afternoon at Tampa Bay Downs, two track records were shattered during the ninth edition of Florida Cup Day.

In the $75,000 Sprint, Sneaking Uponyou roared past pacesetter Tommy's Memory in the stretch and drew off to a record-setting seven length win in that six-furlong sprint.

With Huber Villa-Gomez aboard, Sneaking Uponyou covered the six furlongs over a very fast main track in 1:08.69, which shattered the old six-furlong mark of 1:09 flat set by Bootlegger's Pet in 1974.

Trained by Jamie Ness, Sneakinguponyou returned $6.60. On the Vineyard ran third with Royal Tricon fourth. Favored Peace at Dawn ran sixth.

Sophomore Sprint: Manicero hangs on

Moving to challenge in the turn, Manicero gained a short lead into the stretch of the $75,000 Sophomore Sprint for 3-year-olds then held off a determined challenge through the lane from Turbo Compressor to post 1 1/2-length victory in track-record time for seven furlongs on the dirt.

Under a well judged ride from Paco Lopez, Manicero set just off Jaggermonster as that one cut out early fractions of 23.22 and 46.20 seconds, then moved up outside to challenge after five furlongs.

Meanwhile, Turbo Compressor had been making a wide looping move to contention under Jose Alvarez and ranged up outside the leader to challenge with a furlong remaining. But Lopez and Manicero had something left ,and they outkicked the challenger to the wire through a closing furlong of 12.01 seconds, hitting the wire with a daylight lead, covering the seven furlongs in 1:22.13, which eclipsed the old track record of 1:22.36 set by Sir Shackleford in 2006. Sir Compressor finished 5 3/4 lengths ahead of third-place Jaggermonster, with Motin fourth.

Manicero returned $3.60 while winning his fifth race from seven career starts and his third win in as many outings over the Tampa strip. Leo Azpura Jr. trains the winner.

* In the $75,000 Turf Distaff, Trip for A.J. justified her role as the 2-5 favorite with a workmanlike length win over Wild Mia in the 1 1/16-mile race.

Paco Lopez also handled Trip for A.J., who covered the distance over a firm course in 1:44.04 following a slow pace. Wild Mia was 1 1/2 lengths in front of pacesetter Ruling Class, who ran third, with Dancing Rage fourth.

Trip for A.J., trained by Milt Wolfson, returned .$2.80.

* Trainer Derek Ryan got an immediate return for his owners on the $25,000 they spent to claim My Sunshine Gal when that one drew away from her field through the stretch and posted an impressive 5 3/4-length victory in the $75,000 Sophomore Fillies.

Favored Devlish Lady ran second, three-quarters of a length ahead of third-place White Merlo.

My Sunshine Gal covered the seven furlongs in a quick 1:22.75 and returned $9.40

* Extensive outgamed favored Master Dunker through the stretch for a hard-earned half-length win in the $75,000 Sophomore Turf.

Trained by Tom Proctor, Extensive paid $7.60 and covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.81. Dan's My Man finished third. I'm Steppin' It Up lost his best chance after breaking awkwardly.

* Slews Answer looped four wide through the second turn then rallied past the leaders in the final furlong to post a length win in the nine-furlong $75 ,000 Turf Classic.

Ridden by Leandro Goncalves and trained by H. Graham Motion, Slews Answer paid $4.60 and covered the distance in 1:50.16. Blazen finished second, three-quarters of a length in front of Vanquisher in third.
