OLDSMAR, Fla. – Suzzona, a winner of six of her last eight starts, tops an overflow field of 14 filly and mare turf sprinters entered for Saturday’s opening day feature Tampa Bay Downs, the $75,000 Lightning City Stakes. Trained by Benny Feliciano Jr., Suzzona has won 22 of 46 lifetime races and has won 11 of her last 18 trips to the post. Winner of last season’s edition of the Lightning City with a late rally, Suzzona has been no worse than third in her last nine outings on the grass. Now 7, she won her first three grass starts this season before finishing third in the $100,000 Jenny Wade over soft going at Penn National. She came back to capture back-to-back stakes at Monmouth and Parx before finishing a disappointing 11th in the $200,000 Buffalo Trace Franklin County Stakes at Keeneland. Hector Ramos will handle Suzzona at 122 pounds. Supreme, who finished second in the Buffalo Trace Franklin County Stakes, was also a fast-closing second behind Suzzona in the Very One Stakes at Laurel earlier this season. The Leigh Delacour trainee won the only time she sprinted over the Tampa grass course last season. Winner of an overnight stakes at Colonial and second in the Grade 3 Royal North Stakes at Woodbine, Supreme is a prime late-running threat in the five-furlong Lightning Jet. Luis Garcia will handle Surpreme at 118. Jenny’s So Great won the aforementioned Royal North three races back and has won 4 of 10 lifetime starts on the turf for earnings of $368,760. Rosemary Homeister Jr. pilots Jenny’s So Great at 118. Indulgence came from next to last to capture an allowance sprint at Keeneland last time out and has two wins from four lifetime starts on the turf. Afleet Lass goes for her third straight win while moving back to the turf and could be the best of the front-runners in the Lightning City. Well Deserved won over the turf at Keeneland two races back. In her last race she chased the leaders from the outside before fading to eighth at Churchill in a race that was taken off the turf and contested over a sloppy main track.
