Tampa Bay Downs: Suaveness stuns

Last in the early going, Suaveness swung wide into the stretch then roared past favored Foret in the final sixteenth of a mile to post a stunning upset win in the $60,000 Gasparilla Stakes before a season-high crowd of 7,363 at Tampa Bay Downs.

Sent off as the longest shot in the field of nine 3-year-old fillies, Suaveness returned $141.40 in her first start since October.

Ridden by Charles Forrest for trainer Roberto Arango , Suaveness covered the seven furlongs over a fast track in 1:24.03 to win by 2 3/4 lengths. Foret held on well for the place, 1 3/4 lengths ahead of third-place Pretoria Light.
