Tampa Bay Downs: Marketing Mix getting ready for 2013 debut

There may not be an appropriate spot for Marketing Mix at the Tampa Bay Downs meet.

OLDSMAR, Fla. - One of the most high-profile residents of the backstretch this winter is Marketing Mix, the Glen Hill Farm star who finished second in a photo behind Eclipse Award winner Zagora in last fall’s Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf.

Marketing Mix hasn’t seen action since that race in November but recently went back into training here and posted her third work Saturday when she went a half-mile in 49.20 seconds over the main track.

With the graded turf races for the season in the books here, it’s questionable if Marketing Mix will make her 2013 debut at Tampa. One option might well be the Grade 1, $300,000 Jenny Wiley at Keeneland next month.

Tampa is such a great place to train horses. Fort Larned was there last year and lost in an Alw race. The main track and turf are excellent surfaces. I just wish they didn't run Mdclms 8k everyday.

Proctor is a great trainer with a lot of patience who always puts the horse first. What a nice change from the norm.
