It's Me Mom leads all the way in the Sprint on Florida Cup Day at Tampa Bay Downs.

OLDSMAR, Fla. – Speedy It's Me Mom moved right to the front at the start of the six-furlong, $75,000 Sprint and made every pole a winning one as she scored her fifth win from her last six starts with a track record-setting performance that highlighted the 10th running of Florida Cup Day.

It's Me Mom, who had a four-race win streak snapped when tried at 6 1/2 furlongs in her last, broke sharp and moved clear early as the usually fast Tommy's Memory and David Amiss chose not to challenge the speedy filly early. It's Me Mom led through a quarter of 22.29 seconds and half of 44.44. Turning for home, Jorge Vargas asked It’s Me Mom, and she edged away through the stretch, covering the six furlongs in 1:08.67, which set a new track record for the distance.

It's Me Mom defeated male rivals for the first time in her career as she hit the wire with 2 3/4 lengths to spare over My Charming Clyde, with Jackfrost Ofcourse three lengths back in third.

Turf Classic: Roman Tiger surges late

Roman Tiger proved his win in the Grade 3 Tampa Bay Stakes was no fluke in the Turf Classic as he swung six wide in upper stretch and then surged past a host of rivals through the late stages to come away with a three-quarter-length win in the nine-furlong tilt.

Under another well-judged ride by Angel Serpa, Roman Tiger was content to race along in sixth in the eight-horse field to the stretch as several rivals took runs at the lead. Among those was favored Slews Answer who loomed a threat four wide a furlong out, but was outkicked to the wire to wind up third.

Vanquisher, who had split rivals to lead in the late stages, just hung late, but managed to save second by a nose at 27-1.

Roman Tiger, trained by Dennis Manning, covered the distance over a firm course in 1:48.10 and returned $10.60.

* Tarpy's Goal drove to the lead from the outside through the stretch and then had enough left to hold back fast-closing Midnight Seranade to post a length win in the Sophomore Stakes. Trained by Dale Romans, Tarpy's Goal ($8.60) covered the seven furlongs in 1:23.52 under Leandro Goncalves. Indirectly A.P. finished third after looming a threat inside a furlong out, while favored pacesetter Hello Prince faded to fourth.

* Hooh Why drove to a clear lead a furlong out and then just had enough left to hold off a trio of rivals for a head tally in the Turf Distaff. Ridden by Rosemary Homeister Jr., Hooh Why covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:41.46. Favored Unbridled Humor closed stoutly late along with Another Smokey and Milennia. Trained by Shirley Girten-Drake, Hooh Why paid $9.60.

* Angling to the middle of the course in upper stretch, favored Star Channel roared past pacesetter Didn't Take it and drew off to a 2 3/4-length win in the Sophomore Turf. Trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by Pedro Cotto Jr., Star Channel ($3.80) covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:41.20.

* Xunlei ($6.60) gave Romans his second win of the afternoon when she blew past favored pacesetter Citizen Advocate in the stretch and drew off for a four-length win in the Sophomore Fillies. Xunlei covered the seven furlongs in 1:23.17.
