Tamayuz targets Breeders' Cup Mile

Tamayuz has the Breeders' Cup Mile in his sights after handing trainer Freddie Head his fifth Group 1 triumph in the last 38 days with an impressive 2 1/2-length score over Natagora in the $880,000 Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville on Sunday.

The victory by Tamayuz means that Head, who won this race six times as a jockey, including twice aboard Miesque and once on Lyphard, has won all three Group 1 races run at Deauville so far this month.

Tamayuz, 5 for 6 lifetime, traveled the straight mile on good to soft ground in 1:36.40.

Head will now point Tamayuz to the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on Sept. 27 before his anticipated trip to Santa Anita. Pascal Bary, meanwhile, is contemplating either the QEII or Longchamp's seven-furlong Prix de la Foret on Oct. 4 for Natagora.

* Carribean Sunset, fourth in the American Oaks at Hollywood Park on July 5, will be aimed at the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf by Dermot Weld after her win over older colts in the one-mile, Group 3 Desmond Stakes at Leopardstown on Sunday.

* In the Group 2 Royal Whip Stakes, King of Rome scored a 3 1/2-length victory over Alarazi, getting the 1 1/4 miles on a heavy turf course in 2:12.84.
