Tamayuz holds off challenge in Prix Jean Prat

Freddy Head and Davy Bonilla collected their second Group 1 prize in four days at Chantilly when Tamayuz held off Raven's Pass and Rio de la Plata to win the $636,000 Prix Jean Prat.

Overlooked in the betting at 10.80-1 in favor of the two British invaders, the well placed Tamayuz scored by 1 1/2 lengths, getting the mile on good ground in 1:37.60. A disappointing ninth in the French 2000 Guineas behind Falco, who was only eighth in the Jean Prat, the victorious son of Nayef had previously won the Group 3 Prix de Fontainebleau at Longchamp. For Stonerside Stable's Raven's Pass it was a case of second best again, the Elusive Quality colt having filled the same spot behind Henrythenavigator last time in the St. James's Palace Stakes.

The red hot tandem of trainer Head and rider Bonilla had struck just four days earlier when they produced Marchand d'Or to win the July Cup at Newmarket. Head said that Tamayuz would probably go next in the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville on Aug. 17 when he will face older horses for the first time.
