Talking Treasure handles route

Talking Treasure proved she could rate and carry her abundant speed with little difficulty after rallying to a 1 3/4-length victory over Aristo in Monday's $82,750 Saratoga Dew Stakes at Saratoga.

Talking Treasure ($4), a homebred daughter of Catienus owned by Sarah and Kenneth Ramsey, was stretching out to 1 1/8 miles for the first time in her career off an easy victory going seven furlongs in the Fleet Indian Stakes earlier in the meet.

Jockey John Velazquez deftly avoided an early duel with Raffie's Treasure when easing Talking Treasure back off the pace around the clubhouse turn. The pair stalked the leader under confident handling until the entering the stretch, moved readily to the lead approaching the eighth pole, and completed the distance in 1:51.52. Aristo finished 1 1/4 lengths clear of Ice Cool Kitty to be second in a field of seven New York-bred fillies and mares.

The victory was the seventh in 13 career starts for Talking Treasure and third in as many tries when shipped to Saratoga from her base at Finger Lakes by trainer Charlton Baker.
