'Tali' picked best of Washington


Tali'sluckybusride, who won the Grade 1 Oak Leaf Stakes at Santa Anita last year, was named Washington-bred Horse of the Year for 2001 at Emerald Downs on Saturday night.

Tali'sluckybusride, a now 3-year-old daughter of Delineator and Springhurst, was bred by Dr. Michael Konecny in Washington and raced for Ron and Susie Anson in California.

Others honored were Devil's Enemy as top 2-year-old colt or gelding; Graceful Cat, top 3-year-old filly; Jumron Won, top 3-year-old colt or gelding; Fleet Pacific, top older filly or mare; Makors Mark, champion handicap horse; and Slewsbox, best sprinter.

A special achievement award was given to David Thorner for his work in securing breeders' awards at now-defunct Yakima Meadows, and Betty Seijas and Jim Seabeck got lifetime memberships to the Washington Thoroughbred Breeders Association for their long service to the Washington Thoroughbred industry.

Revillew Slew tops Oregon

The Oregon Awards Banquet was held at the track on Saturday night, and Revillew Slew was named the state's top older filly or mare and horse of the year. Revillew Slew, a now-6-year-old daughter of Can't Be Slew and Mischief Mud earned $164,680 from four 2001 victories in Southern California.

Other awards went to Lammy for the top Oregon-bred 2-year-old filly, Lethal Grande for top 2-year-old colt or gelding, Moonlit Maddie for top 3-year-old filly; Yesss for top 3-year-old colt or gelding; and Weinhard for best older male.
