Take D' Tour retired with injury

EmailTake D' Tour, a multiple Grade 1-winning mare, has been retired after injuring her left foreleg, trainer David Fawkes said Wednesday.

Fawkes said Take D' Tour came out of her last-place finish in the Grade 1 Beldame at Belmont Park last month with "inflammation in her left leg."

"Going into a race like the Breeders' Cup, she couldn't compete at the level she would have needed to," Fawkes said.

Take D' Tour, a 6-year-old daughter of Tour d'Or, won 10 races from 25 starts and earned $1,047,740 for owners Alice and Peter Muller. Among those victories were back-to-back wins in the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps Handicap at Belmont Park. She also won the Grade 2 Shuvee at Belmont in 2006.

"She's been good to me," said Fawkes, who was hoping to run Take D' Tour in the Breeders' Cup Distaff. "I never won a Grade 1 before, and now I've won two of them."

Fawkes said Take D' Tour has been sent to Graceful Gaits Farm in Live Oak, Fla., while the Mullers decide to whom the mare will be bred.
