Take Charge Indy's first foal arrives in New York

Grade 1 winner Take Charge Indy’s first foal at stud arrived Monday at Royal Thoroughbreds in Freedom, N.Y. when Spring Elusion produced a dark bay or brown filly.

The filly was bred by Danzel Brendemuehl and Sandra Lombardo. She is the second foal out of the winning daughter of Elusive Quality.

“She is an attractive filly, very correct with a deep girth, and weighing in at 120 pounds,” Brendemuehl said. “We are delighted with her.”

Take Charge Indy stands at WinStar Farm in Versailles, Ky. for an advertised 2015 fee of $20,000. He covered 145 mares in his first season at stud in 2014.

Take Charge Indy won three of 14 starts during his on-track career for earnings of $1,102,496, highlighted by scores in the Grade 1 Florida Derby and the Grade 2 Alysheba Stakes. He also placed in five additional graded stakes, including the Grade 1 Clark Handicap and Donn Handicap.

Bred in Kentucky by Eaton Sales, Take Charge Indy is out of the Grade 1-winning Dehere mare Take Charge Lady, who was named 2013 Kentucky Broodmare of the Year. He is a half brother to champion Will Take Charge and to Charming, the dam of Eclipse Award finalist Take Charge Brandi.
