English classic winner Taghrooda has been retired from racing and will join the broodmare band of Sheikh Hamdan al-Maktoum, her owner and breeder, in 2015.

The 3-year-old Sea The Stars filly retires with 4 wins in 6 career starts for earnings of $2,404,603.

Taghrooda was arguably England’s top sophomore filly in 2014, winning the Group 1 English Oaks, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, and the listed Pretty Polly Stakes. Her two defeats came in a runner-up effort in the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks, and most recently finishing third to Treve in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

John Gosden trained Taghrooda for Sheikh Hamdan, who bred the filly in Great Britain.

“She has been wonderful, and will be missed,” Shadwell racing manager Angus Gold told Racing Post. “In my time not since [English and Irish classic winner] Salsabil have we had a filly this good, which shows how rare they are.”

Taghrooda is the first foal to race out of the Group 2-placed stakes-winning Sadler’s Wells mare Ezima. She is from the family of Irish and French classic winner Ebadiyla and Group 1 winners Estimate, Enzeli, and Edabiya.
