Sweet Macaroni best in Fantasia

BOSSIER CITY, La. - Sweet Macaroni, idle since a win in the $125,000 Louisiana Premier Starlet Stakes at Delta on February 5, picked up right where she left off in winning Sunday's for Louisiana-bred fillies at Harrah's Louisiana Downs. Longshot Courtneys Doll finished second, two and a half-lengths back, followed by Raspberry Win. Indigo Girl, who was shooting for her third consecutive stakes win, failed to fire and finished fifth while Maid in China suffered her first local defeat after three wins here as a juvenile last season. Wearing blinkers for the first time, the 5-2 second choice rushed up to contest a blistering opening quarter then stopped to finish seventh and last.

Racing under the colors of Five Star Stables, Sweet Macaroni ($5.60) has now visited the winner's circle four times from nine starts. The winner is trained by Troy Young and was ridden by veteran C. J. Woodley for the first time.

"My filly was tracking the leaders comfortably," Woodley said after the race. "When I asked her, she took me right to them."
