Sweet Lorena back home for Arctic Queen

Horse-for-the-course Sweet Lorena returns to her home track after two fairly productive ventures on synthetic surfaces in quest of her first stakes victory in Saturday's $50,000 Arctic Queen Handicap on the dirt at Finger Lakes.

The six-furlong Arctic Queen, restricted to New York-bred fillies and mares, drew a field of seven.

The 4-year-old Sweet Lorena went 7 for 9 last season at Finger Lakes. She returned from a seven-month layoff to finish third in the Susan B. Anthony, then shipped to Presque Isle Downs, where she won a high-priced optional claimer and finished second when stretched out to a mile over the Tapeta surface.

The main threats to Sweet Lorena are Cleverly Regal and Fly to Me, who earned identical Beyer Speed Figures of 75 last time out.

Cleverly Regal, making her first start in nearly two months, crushed optional claimers by seven lengths on July 12 while winning for the sixth time in 13 local races.

Street Sass, who has been training at Saratoga, missed by a nose in her first visit to Finger Lakes almost a month ago.
