Suva victorious in Fantasy

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Suva wrapped up the local 2-year-old filly championship with a 3 1-4 length win over Deadly Zone in the $114,550 Fantasy Stakes at Hastings Saturday.

Ridden by Pedro Alvardo, Suva was sent hard from her outside post to engage Chelseais Image for the first six-furlongs. She moved to the lead approaching the quarter-pole and was drawing away in the stretch.

"I really didn't want to be on the lead but since we were going so slow, it was a great position to be in," said Alvarado. "She was lugging in a bit in the stretch but she had done that before so I was ready for it."

Chelseais Image and Suve set moderate fractions of 24.33, 49.96 and 1:15.02. Final time for the 1 1-16 miles was 1:46.69 over a track rated good.

Trained by Steve Henson, Suva paid $6.50 as the second choice in the wagering behind Chelseais Image, who finished third.

She earned $68,730 for her owner Jeff Sengara.
