Susan Jane Anstey dies at 59

A memorial service will be held Monday for Susan Jane Anstey, who died at age 59 at her home in Nobleton, Ontario, on Wednesday following a battle with cancer.

The service, to begin at 1:30 p.m., will be at the Aurora United Church, 15186 Yonge Street (south of Wellington), in Aurora, Ontario.

Anstey, a major figure in Canadian equine circles, published leading magazines, including Canadian Thoroughbred, Horse Sport, and Horse Canada.

Anstey, who also bred and raced Thoroughbreds and competed and judged hunters and jumpers, was a longstanding member of The Toronto and North York Hunt.

She also served as a director of Jump Canada, as chair of the Media Advisory Committee of the Federation Equestre International and, for the last 12 years, as president of the International Alliance of Equestrian Journalists.

Her survivors include her longtime partner, Michael Van Every, and her daughter, Jennifer Anstey.
