Surgery for Sharp Humor

Sharp Humor, 19th in the Kentucky Derby, was scheduled to undergo surgery Thursday morning at the Rood and Riddle equine clinic in Lexington, Ky., to have a small knee chip removed, said trainer Dale Romans.

"Now we know why he ran like he did," said Romans.

Romans said it was "too early to tell" how long Sharp Humor would be sidelined. He said the chip was not evident about a week before the Derby, when WinStar Farm commissioned a pre-purchase examination of the colt. WinStar bought a minority interest in the colt from Purdedel Stables.

Sharp Humor had finished a close second to Barbaro in the previous race for both horses, the April 1 Florida Derby.
