Superior Storm hot and bothered in Showcase Distaff

Superior Storm, who had never been beaten in a Louisiana-bred stakes until her fourth-place finish in the $100,000 Louisiana Showcase Distaff at Evangeline on July 3, had a significant excuse for the very rare defeat.

"She didn't sweat," said Rick Jackson, who trains Superior Storm. "It just took a lot out of her. She couldn't finish. She just overheated is what she did. Basically, the best thing for her will be cold weather. She won't start back while it's hot."

Jackson said Superior Storm, a 5-year-old mare who is based at Louisiana Downs, is tentatively scheduled to run next in either late October or November. From there, she will be pointed for the Louisiana Champions Day Ladies at Fair Grounds in December.

Jackson said the temperatures were in the low 90s on Showcase Night, and the humidity was very high. Superior Storm had won 12 Louisiana-bred stakes leading up to this year's Louisiana Showcase Distaff. Her streak started in December 2007, with the Louisiana Champions Day Lassie at Fair Grounds.

Superior Storm has compiled a career record of 15 wins from 25 starts for earnings of $956,123. She races for Jac Mac Stables.
