Sunland: Wiredfortwotwenty streaks into Bill Thomas Memorial

Email

With some of his chief rivals cutting back from two turns, Wiredfortwotwenty appears to have a good chance to keep his win streak intact on Saturday in the $50,000 Bill Thomas Memorial at Sunland Park.

Wiredfortwotwenty will be seeking his fourth straight win. He comes into the six-furlong race for 3-year-olds and up off a 5 1/4-length romp in the $75,000 Phoenix Gold Cup at Turf Paradise on Feb. 19. Prior to that race. Wiredfortwentytwo won the $50,000 Budweiser at Sunland on Feb. 5 and a $25,000 optional claiming allowance at Sunland Dec. 29.

Wiredfortwentytwo is a front-runner who figures to get the jump on turnbacking rivals Quiet Again, who won the $50,000 Curribot at 1 1/16 miles at Sunland on Feb. 13, and Imco Spirit, who earlier this winter won the $182,000 Zia Park Distance Championship at 1 1/8 miles Dec. 5.

Wiredfortwentytwo will break from post 5, and appears to be the controlling speed. For the return to Sunland he will be reunited with jockey Isaias Enriquez, who was aboard for his win in the Budweiser. Bart Hone trains Wiredfortwentytwo, who is a 6-year-old son of Greatness. A five-time winner, Wiredfortwotwenty races for Class Racing Stable.

In all, a field of 10 will go in the Bill Thomas. Ducky Drake, a 9-year-old winner of more than $500,000, will be stepping back up into stakes company for the first time since December after being claimed for $15,000 in February. He won the $50,000 KLAQ in his last stakes appearance, which came at Sunland.
