Sunland track report

Shemoveslikeaghost, who tends to run well fresh, returns from a layoff of more than two months to defend her title in Saturday's $125,000 New Mexico Racing Commission Handicap.

A six-furlong race for fillies and mares, the New Mexico Racing Commission is restricted to horses bred in New Mexico.

Shemoveslikeaghost, who last raced Aug. 21, has won three statebred stakes in her last four starts and has been made the 123-pound highweight in the New Mexico Racing Commission. She was a winner the last two times she returned from a freshening, capturing stakes at Albuquerque and Ruidoso.

Shemoveslikeaghost shows a nice series of works for her return and will be ridden by Ken Tohill. Fred Danley trains Shemoveslikeaghost for her breeder, William Stradley. Shemoveslikeaghost has won 9 of 17 starts and $379,951.

The chief threat could be Scarzane, who was a neck winner over Shemoveslikeaghost in the $67,000 New Mexico Distaff at SunRay Park on Aug. 21. Scarzane, who is weighted at 119, tends to race from off the pace and will be a late threat to the front-running Shemoveslikeaghost.

Others in the nine-horse field include Spirit de Azure, who returns to the statebred ranks after running second and third in open-company allowance races, and Hat Creek, who makes her stakes debut after winning three of her four career starts for trainer Ben Torres.
