Vamoose wins the Curribot Stakes by 3 1/2 lengths at Sunland Park.

Vamoose ran down a series of pacesetters to win the third stakes race of his career Sunday in the $50,000 Curribot at Sunland Park. The 1 1/16-mile race was part of Sunland’s route series for older horses, serving as a stepping-stone to the $100,000 Sunland Park Handicap on April 15.

Vamoose ($5) settled off the pace in the Curribot as Quiet Again broke well from the rail and emerged as the leader through an opening quarter in 24.70 seconds. Quiet Again was overtaken by Monterey Jazz through a half-mile in 47.86, while Okie Slew took over through six furlongs in 1:11.75. Vamoose, meanwhile, burst to the lead in the stretch and went on to a 3 1/2-length win over Forest Mouse. It was another half-length back in third to Quiet Again.

Vamoose covered the 1 1/16 miles on a track rated fast in 1:45.71. Enrique Gomez rode the winner for Henry Dominguez, the same team that won the $50,000 El Dario with Twelve Twenty Two on Saturday at Sunland Park. Vamoose races for his breeder, Everest Stables. He has now won 6 of 17 starts and $181,011.
