On Down the Road, with Carlos Madeira up, wins the $85,000 Albert Dominguez Memorial at Sunland Park. in his last start Dec. 30.

On Down the Road will have to overcome a 2 1/2-month layoff to keep his win streak alive Sunday when he runs in the $85,000 New Mexico State University Handicap at Sunland Park. He will be seeking his fourth straight win in a streak that began in September.

The New Mexico State University is a mile and 70-yard race restricted to 4-year-olds and up bred in New Mexico. A field of 10 will go, including Nuggets Please, who in December won the $85,000 Johnie L. Jamison at Sunland.

On Down the Road won a conditioned allowance at Zia in September, then came back and won the richest race on the calendar for older New Mexico-bred route horses, the $180,000 New Mexico Cup Classic. Following the October race at Zia, On Down the Road won the $85,000 Albert Dominguez Memorial at Sunland in his last start Dec. 30.

On Down the Road shows a steady series of Sunland works for the New Mexico State University Handicap. He is trained by Joel Marr, who wins at an above average rate with his comebackers. Carlos Madeira has the mount from post 7. On Down the Road is a 5-year-old who races for Lisa Rehburg.

Nuggets Please should be sharp for the move back to two turns off a quick $50,000 optional-claiming sprint at Sunland on Jan. 31. He finished sixth in the six-furlong race that went in 1:09.60. One start earlier, Nuggets Please was third to On Down the Road in the Dominguez Memorial. Trainer Justin Evans has given the mount to Miguel Hernandez.
