African Rose can become Sunland Park's winningest horse of the meet Saturday if she picks off her fourth race of the local season in the $50,000 Czaria. To do so, she will have to defeat Santa Anita invader Scary Ride and recent Turf Paradise stakes winner Jaws n' Paws in the six-furlong race for fillies and mares that also drew Pyrite On My Mind. African Rose is locked in a four-way tie atop Sunland's standings for winningest horse with three victories at the meet. Her latest came March 24, when she shuttled to a two-length win over Pyrite On My Mind in the $75,000 Harry Henson. Before that race, African Rose won a pair of local allowances, one in January and the other on March 3. For the Czaria, African Rose will be cutting back from a mile, and she could get an ideal tracking trip behind Scary Ride, who wired her rivals in a $40,000 starter allowance at Santa Anita in February, and Jaws n' Paws, who was prominent throughout when winning the $35,000 Mesa at Turf Paradise on March 9. Miguel Hernandez has the mount on African Rose for Justin Evans, the leading trainer at Sunland. The horse will break from post 3 for Judge Lanier Racing. Scary Ride will be making her stakes debut Saturday. She has won 2 of 5 starts, her other score coming in a $20,000 maiden claiming sprint at Betfair Hollywood Park in her debut last November. Isaias Enriquez has the mount for owner-trainer Karl Pergola. Jaws n' Paws, a winner of seven of her last eight starts, will break from post 6. Ry Eikleberry has the mount for Stateside Racing and trainer Robertino Diodoro.
