Sunland: Desert Gamble tries to make it three straight

Email

Desert Gamble, who has won the $100,000 Dominguez Memorial and an allowance in his last two starts at Sunland, will be out to make it three in a row Sunday in the $125,000 New Mexico State University Handicap. The mile and 70-yard race is for 4-year-olds and up bred in New Mexico.

Desert Gamble is the 122-pound highweight. He is a strong closer, and was up for neck wins in each of his last two starts, which came on Jan. 2 and Feb. 20. Justin Shepherd was aboard for both races and has the mount once again for trainer Joel Marr. Desert Gamble races for Joe Allen and Michael Stinson.
