Sunland: Dancing Capote top weight

Email

Saturday's $75,000-added City of Las Cruces Handicap brings together a field of nine statebred fillies and mares at one mile. The likely favorite is Dancing Capote, but she is beatable and the race does offer value elsewhere.

Dancing Capote, a 5-year-old mare owned by Joe Dee and Lisa Brooks, enters the Las Cruces following two straight wins. She posted a mild upset last time out in her first attempt at a route. Prior to the start of her winning streak, she had won only two of her first 15 career starts.

Dancing Capote has been assigned top weight of 122 pounds. Ricardo Jaime has the call.

Timed to a T. was an easy winner of a one-mile classified allowance Feb. 1, then returned to finish a fast-closing second in a similar race going 5 1/2 furlongs March 7. Timed to a T. carries 121 pounds.

Owner-trainer Preston Nouwens named Nena Matz to ride.

Fritzie's Prospect and Lord Imajones finished third and fourth behind Dancing Capote Feb. 22, both beaten just over a length.

Leading rider Jorge Bourdieu has been the regular rider for Timed to a T. and Lord Imajones, and decided in favor of Lord Imajones for this race. C. J. McMahon has the call on Fritzie's Prospect.
