Sunday's stakes roundup (5/27)

Caller One followed up an impressive victory in Dubai by registering a 2 1/2-length victory in the $107,300 Los Angeles Handicap at Hollywood Park on Sunday.

The victory in the Grade 3 sprint stakes marked Caller One's first race since winning the Dubai Golden Shaheen Stakes at Nad al Sheba in March.

Stormy Jack was second, 3 1/2 lengths ahead of Rapidough.

A 3-5 favorite, Caller One ($3.20) covered the six furlongs in 1:08.35.

Caller One, a 4-year-old gelded son of Phone Trick, is owned by Theresa McArthur and Carolyn Chapman and trained by Jim Chapman.

Belmont: Success for 'Affirmed'

Affirmed Success, long on rest on and short on competition, was victorious in his 2001 debut, capturing the $100,900 Jaipur Handicap at Belmont Park on Sunday.

The Jaipur was originally scheduled to be run on the turf but an extended

period of rain in the New York area forced a switch to Belmont's muddy main

track and left the race with only three starters.

Affirmed Success ($3.30), ridden by Jerry Bailey, prevailed by a length over pace-setting Texas Glitter. It was another 16 3/4 lengths back to Bought in Dixie.

The Jaipur was the first race since the Cigar Mile in November for Affirmed Success, who is owned by Albert Fried Jr. and trained by Richard Schosberg.
