Sunday stakes recaps (11/24/02)

* Buddy Gil ($16.60) won the $65,600 Golden Bear Stakes at Golden Gate, giving jockey Omar Figueroa his first stakes victory. Buddy Gil wore down early leaders Gray Jag and Timely Jeff to win the six-furlong stakes for 2-year-olds by 7 1/2 lengths.

* Comic Truth, who left Florida back in July with only a maiden claiming win from four starts, picked up his third stakes victory since coming under trainer Cole Norman's care by capturing the $75,000 Jean Lafitte Stakes at Delta Downs.

* Brattothecore mowed down the dueling favorites in the stretch under Jake Barton to post a mild upset in the $160,200 Ontario Lassie Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Woodbine.

* At Hoosier Park, defending champion Fight for Ally captured the $44,350 To Much Coffee Stakes, for older Indiana-breds, to earn his first win of the year.

Senorita Ziggy won the $44,100 Frances Slocum Stakes for fillies and mares.

* The $125,000-added New Mexico Racing Commission Handicap for statebred fillies and mares at Sunland Park was expected to be a showdown between the best older mare here, Wampus Who, and the top 3-year-old filly, Espeedytoo. But Wampus Who encountered traffic trouble and finished fifth, while Espeedytoo sailed to a 1 3/4-length win.
