Summit of Speed moves up a week

The $2 million Summit of Speed, which in a few short years has grown into one of the premier stakes days on the national racing calendar, will again highlight the 2007 Calder and Tropical at Calder stakes schedules. There are 70 stakes races on the schedule, worth nearly $10 million, and 17 are graded, topped by the Grade 1 Princess Rooney Handicap. The Calder meet opens April 25.

The Summit of Speed - which consists of eight sprint stakes, topped by the $500,000 Princess Rooney and Grade 2 Smile Sprint handicaps - has been moved up one week to Julyo7.

Other key events during the 112-day Calder meeting include the $1.6 million Festival of the Sun on Oct. 13, the Juvenile Showcase on Sept. 1, and the Turf Sprint Championship on Aug. 11. Calder will also bring back the popular Extreme Day at the Races, which includes a stakes race run clockwise on the turf and the world's fastest daily double - two races run simultaneously, one on the main course and one on the grass.

The 60-day Tropical meet will again be highlighted by the Grade 2 La Prevoyante and Grade 2 W.L. McKnight handicaps on the turf, which are part of Grand Slam II on Dec. 15. There again will be three Grand Slam days during the meeting. Florida Million Day, a day of races for Florida-breds, will be held on Nov. 10.
