Summer Wind Dancer bred

Email

Summer Wind Dancer, who won the Delaware and Hawthorne handicaps last year, has been retired from racing and was bred to Unbridled's Song last month.

Owned by Richard and Yvette Wira and Linda Vetter, Summer Wind Dancer made her final start in the California Cup Matron last October, finishing fourth.

A California-bred, Summer Wind Dancer was found to have suffered a knee injury over the winter. There was hope of sending her back to the track, but the injury was slow to heal, prompting the decision to breed the 5-year-old mare.

Summer Wind Dancer was trained by Jenine Sahadi in 2002, when the filly won the California Cup Juvenile Fillies and Cover Gal Stakes. Summer Wind Dancer was later switched to Jeff Mullins and won the Grade 2 Delaware Handicap at Delaware Park and Grade 3 Hawthorne Handicap at Hollywood Park while in his stable.

By Siberian Summer, Summer Wind Dancer won 5 of 17 starts and $898,762. She will be offered in foal at the Keeneland November breeding sale later this year.
