Summer Front retires to Airdrie

Multiple graded stakes winning millionaire Summer Front has been retired and will begin his stallion career at Airdrie Stud in Midway, Ky.

Summer Front, a son of leading commercial sire War Front, will stand for a fee of $10,000.

Summer Front’s biggest victory came in the Grade 2 Fort Lauderdale Stakes last year; he also won the Miami Mile and the Cliff Hanger Stakes, both Grade 3 events, in 2013, the Grade 3 Hill Prince Stakes in 2012. He won three other listed stakes and placed in eight other graded events, including five Grade 1 placings.

“Getting Summer Front in the Airdrie stallion barn has been an absolute priority for us for the last two years, and we couldn’t be more excited about his future and what he’ll mean for this farm,” Airdrie’s Brereton Jones said. “War Front is giving every possible indication that he’s going to be one of the truly important sires of a generation, and we’re convinced that Summer Front will carve out his own enormous piece of that legacy.  When people watch his races, see that monster turn of foot at a mile, and then come out to the farm to see him- I know they will be just as excited as we are. He’s 16.1 [hands], perfectly balanced and is absolute, total class. We’ll be throwing the full support of the best of our broodmare band behind him and we couldn’t be more excited to see where he takes us.”

Out of the El Prado mare Rose of Summer, Summer Front is a half-brother to Grade 1 winner Laragh.
