OCEANPORT, N.J. - In Summation ($3.80) squeezed out a nose victory Sunday in his season debut, winning the $60,000 John McSorley Stakes on the turf at Monmouth Park.

Ridden by Joe Bravo, the Grade 1 winner angled to the outside at the top of the lane and responded willingly to get up in the final strides over Duffy's Tavern with Atticus Kristy another nose back in third.

The victory gave trainer Christophe Clement turf- stakes victories on consecutive days, following Gio Ponti's victory Saturday in the $500,000 Man o' War Stakes at Belmont Park.

In Summation had last run in the Sunshine Millions Sprint at Santa Anita in January. This was the 6-year-old's prep for a return to California for the Grade 1 Bing Crosby Handicap on the Polytrack at Del Mar on Aug. 8. In Summation won the 2007 Crosby and finished second in the race last year.

The time was 1:01.68 for about 5 1/2 furlongs on the good turf.

* Way With Words ($14.40) wore down the pacesetting Love That Dance to capture the $60,000 Spruce Fir Handicap for New Jersey-bred fillies and mares.
