Suffolk cancels for 11th time

EAST BOSTON, Mass. - Suffolk Downs canceled racing on Saturday when a rain and ice storm left the track unsafe.

It was the 11th full-card cancellation of 2003 for Suffolk, which has suffered through one of the harshest winters in recent years.

The riders inspected the track 15 minutes before the first race post parade, returned to the jockeys' room, and then elected not to ride.

Live racing is scheduled to resume on Monday. Saturday Show-Up contest players were given a pass for the week and the winner of the Kentucky Derby trip will be announced Monday on Suffolk Downs Tonight.
