Suave Jazz ends win drought in Fire Plug

Suave Jazz ($4.60) snagged his first victory since November 2007 in Saturday's $50,000 Fire Plug Stakes at Laurel Park, drawing away to a two-length win in the six-furlong race under Jeremy Rose.

Suave Jazz was rated in last place in the field of six as Night Stand led through fractions of 22.40 and 45.86 seconds, pressed by Taint So. Rose angled out his mount in upper stretch, they moved to the front with a sixteenth to go, and increased their lead to the wire as the runner-up, Yes It's the Truth, held off the 4-year-old Springs Road by a neck.

Trained by Tony Dutrow for owner Michael Dubb, Suave Jazz covered the distance in 1:10.96 on a fast track.
