Stud plans announced for Dylan Thomas

EmailDylan Thomas, winner of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and favorite for the Breeders' Cup Turf, will retire to stud at Coolmore "before the end of the year," according to a release from the Irish-based stallion operation.

"We've already had numerous inquiries about him from breeders both here in Ireland and abroad, so we just wanted to put everyone in the picture," Coolmore Ireland manager Christy Grassick said in an announcement issued Tuesday by the farm.

Dylan Thomas is a six-time Group 1 winner campaigned by Susan Magnier and Michael Tabor. A 4-year-old Danehill colt, Dylan Thomas has won 10 of his 18 starts for earnings of $6,545,852.

Trained by Aidan O'Brien, Dylan Thomas was Ireland's champion 3-year-old last season for distances from 9 1/2 furlongs to 14 furlongs. In addition to winning the Arc, this season he has scored Group 1 victories in the Irish Champion, England's King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II, and France's Prix Ganay.

Dylan Thomas is out of the Diesis mare Lagrion, who also has produced Europe's 2001 champion juvenile filly Queen's Logic. Coolmore has not yet announced his stud fee.
