Title Contender, who has won three stakes at Hastings this year, tops the Canadian contingent in the Longacres Mile.

AUBURN, Wash. - Stryker Phd drew post 9 and was installed as the 5-2 morning-line favorite Wednesday for Sunday's Grade 3, $200,000 Longacres Mile. In keeping with recent history, Emerald Downs's signature race attracted a full field of 12. It will go as race 7 on a card that begins at 2 p.m. Pacific. Post time for the Mile is 5:01.

Stryker Phd, who will carry co-high weight of 121 pounds, will be shooting for his third successive stakes victory. He won the one-mile Budweiser Handicap on June 15 in his first start of the year, and followed with another off-the-pace victory in the 1 1/16-mile Mt. Rainier Handicap on July 20. He towers above many of his Longacres Mile foes on the Beyer Speed Figure front, consistently earning figures in the high 90s at Emerald Downs.

Title Contender, the other highweight, boasts five stakes victories, including three this year at Hastings in Vancouver, British Columbia. He'll start from post 7 with regular rider Rico Walcott. Leslie Mawing, the leading rider at Emerald Downs but without a Mile victory, has the call on Stryker Phd.

In addition to Title Contender, the Canadian contingent includes Twistgrips, Mysterious Soul, and Shooting Jacket, all likely to be longshots in the wagering. Commander, the leading horse at Northlands Park and high-weighted at 123 pounds for the Longacres Mile, will skip the race after suffering what owner Glen Todd said was a minor foot injury early in the week.

Prohibition was listed as the 3-1 second favorite by Rob Rao, Emerald's morning-line maker, with Title Contender at 9-2 and Mr. Bowling, winner of the Lt. Governor's Handicap at Hastings, next at 8-1. The other eight entrants are 12-1 or higher.

The Mile undercard includes the $65,000 Emerald Distaff and another appearance by undefeated 4-year-old filly Stopshoppingdebbie. She is scheduled to face just four horses in the 1 1/8-mile Distaff, Emerald's traditional championship for fillies and mares, and two of those are her Tom Wenzel-trained stablemates Blueberry Smoothie and Goin to the Window. Stopshoppingdebbie is likely to be a prohibitively short price as she tries to run her winning streak to nine.
