Strong numbers in first half at Tattersalls

A pair of yearling colts who each sold for $595,000 on Tuesday were the co-sale toppers through two days of strong selling at the four-day Tattersalls October yearling sale in Newmarket, England.

The first $595,000 colt through the ring was a son of Captain Rio out of the Formidable mare Sliding. Formidable is a U.S.-bred, while Captain Rio and Sliding were both bred in Great Britain. The colt was purchased by the Shadwell Estates Co. of Sheikh Hamdan al-Maktoum from the consignment of Michael Downey, acting as agent.

The second co-sale topper was a bay colt by Invincible out of the U.S.-bred Dehere mare You Rang Here. Angie Sykes Bloodstock purchased the yearling, also from the consignment of Michael Downey, agent.

According to the sales company, total sales for the first two days were $40,206,582, up from $31,216,185 from last year's two-day gross, while average was $87,028, up from $49,148 for the first two days last year.
