Street Sense works again at Churchill

EmailLOUISVILLE, Ky. - Street Sense continued toward his next race by breezing a half-mile in 48.60 seconds Sunday morning over a fast Churchill Downs strip with exercise rider Tracey Wilkes aboard.

Trainer Carl Nafzger reiterated that he has not made a final decision about where Street Sense will make his next start, which will be his final race in preparation for his ultimate goal, the Oct. 27 Breeders' Cup Classic at Monmouth Park. Nafzger has said Street Sense will run in one of three races: the Sept. 29 Hawthorne Gold Cup, the Sept. 29 Kentucky Cup Classic at Turfway Park, or the Sept. 30 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park. Nafzger has said he probably will make an announcement on or around Sept. 24.

Assistant trainer Ian Wilkes said Monday morning that Street Sense will work once more at Churchill, most likely with regular rider Calvin Borel aboard. The colt galloped an easy mile Monday and was scheduled to walk the shed row Tuesday before resuming training Wednesday.

Street Sense is perhaps the leading contender for 2007 Horse of the Year, having accounted for the Kentucky Derby and Travers Stakes among his four victories this year.
