Streaking Torrance seeks 4th in a row

The red-hot Torrance brings a three-race winning streak into Monday's $15,000 Willow Lake Handicap at Yavapai Downs. The mile race for fillies and mares,

3-years-old and up, drew a field of seven.

Owned by John and Jeanette Corvi and trained by Bill Brashears, Torrance has blossomed in recent months, due in part to her love of the Yavapai racing strip. After a good third in a sprint at Turf Paradise on

April 15 she came here and won a sprint by 4 1/4 lengths against restricted claimers May 27, won a mile optional claimer by 1 1/4 lengths June 17, and then romped by 3 1/4 lengths against classified allowance females on June 30.

The 4-year-old filly has 5 wins in 17 starts and $64,455 in earnings, and is a perfect 3 for 3 at Yavapai. Dennis Collins rides the 123-pound co-highweight.

Night Power, owned by HMA Stable and trained by Troy Smith, also carries 123 pounds and looms the main obstacle for Torrance.

Night Power, a 5-year-old mare, won her only local start here last year. She moved around after that, winning an optional claimer at Turf Paradise Jan. 8, then finishing 10th behind champion Ginger Punch in the Sunshine Millions Distaff at Gulfstream Jan. 26.

Night Power had two runner-up efforts from three grass tries at Turf Paradise after that, before going to Ruidoso Downs where she was fourth in a stakes May 31. She won her last start, an optional claimer there, on June 26.

She has 5 wins in 24 starts and earnings of $85,369. Daniel Vergara rides.
