Strawbridge honored by Thoroughbred Club of America

The Thoroughbred Club of America has chosen breeder and owner George Strawbridge, Jr., of Augustin Stable as its 2011 Honored Guest, the Kentucky-based organization announced Friday.

The organization will honor Strawbridge at its 80th annual testimonial dinner at Keeneland Racecourse on Oct. 30.

“Over a long career, Mr. Strawbridge has exemplified the best traditions of horsemanship and sportsmanship,” said the Thoroughbred Club’s president, Julie Cauthen. “His personal commitment to the sport of Thoroughbred racing extends beyond his own personal success to outspoken leadership on behalf of the game.”

Strawbridge, 73, is a former steeplechase rider and has bred and/or owned many top-class horses both on the flat and over fences. His best runners, alone or in partnership, include U.S. champions Forever Together, Waya, such Grade 1 winners as With Anticipation, Tikkanen, and Informed Decision, English classic winner Lucarno. European champion Selkirk, and Hall of fame steeplechaser cafe Prince, among many others.
