Strawberry Tart rallies to win Flawlessly Stakes

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - First, she was a main-track sprinter, then a turf sprinter. Now, Strawberry Tart has reinvented herself as a turf miler.

Making her first start beyond seven furlongs, Strawberry Tart won the $100,000 Flawlessly Stakes over a mile on turf at Hollywood Park on Friday night, the most prestigious win of her six-race career.

Ridden by Martin Garcia, Strawberry Tart ($6.40) rallied from seventh in a field of nine 3-year-old fillies to win the Flawlessly by a half-length over Jehan. Dash Dot Dash finished third. Oilgonewile, who led by as many as eight lengths on the backstretch, faded in the stretch to finish last.

Strawberry Tart ran a mile in 1:34.28. Earlier this year, she won two main-track sprints at Oaklawn Park. In her Hollywood Park debut on June 5, she won the Manhattan Beach Stakes over six furlongs on turf. Friday's win has trainer Jeff Bonde thinking of the $150,000 San Clemente Handicap over a mile on turf for 3-year-old fillies at Del Mar on Aug. 1.

Owned by George and Mary Clare Schmitt, Strawberry Tart, a filly by Atticus, has won four races and $152,625.
