Stratham captures Will Rogers

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Stratham continued his domination of California's 3-year-old male turf division in Sunday's $100,000 at Hollywood Park.

The style of the victory was reminiscent of Stratham's win in the La Puente Stakes at Santa Anita last month - he closed on the rail through the stretch under jockey David Cohen to take the lead.

Trained by Tim Yakteen for Jerry Jamgotchian, Stratham ($16.20) was dismissed in the betting after being listed as the 5-2 morning-line favorite.

Cohen kept Stratham near the front throughout. Stratham was third, stalking pacesetter Corazondelcampeon through early fractions of 24 and 47.28 seconds. It was not until the final furlong that Stratham moved clear. He took the lead from New Joysey Jeff late and won by three-quarters of a length, finishing a mile on turf in 1:34.19.

New Joysey Jeff held second, finishing 1 3-4 lengths in front of Obrigado in the field of seven. Corazondelcampeon, the 2-1 favorite, faded to sixth.

Stratham has won 4 of 11 starts and $191,993.
