Stradivari had surgery Tuesday on hi right front ankle.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The talented 3-year-old Stradivari underwent surgery Tuesday to repair the right front ankle he fractured during training here last week.

On Wednesday morning, trainer Todd Pletcher said doctors at the Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital here “were pleased late yesterday afternoon after the surgery and after recovery.”

“So far, so good,” Pletcher said.

Pletcher said he didn’t have details about how many screws and plates were needed to repair the fracture or how long Stradivari would have to remain at Rood and Riddle.

Stradivari, fourth in the Preakness and fifth in the Belmont, was training for Friday’s Curlin Stakes at Saratoga when he injured himself galloping out at the end of a workout with stablemate Destin, the Belmont Stakes runner-up who will vie for favoritism with Mohaymen in Saturday’s Grade 2, $ 600,000 Jim Dandy Stakes.
