Stormy Pick prompt winner

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Stormy Pick on Saturday returned to the track she dominated at as a 2-year-old filly last year and captured the $50,000 Dearly Precious Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at six furlongs at Monmouth.

Stormy Pick, trained by Ben Perkins Jr., was the class of the five-horse field, having won the Grade 1 Spinaway at Saratoga last fall. Since that race, she had been winless in five starts, three of which were Grade 1's. Last summer, she was 3 for 4 at Monmouth Park, including a victory in the Grade 3 Sorority for juvenile fillies.

Sent off at 3-5, Stormy Pick lunged at the start, but was urged to the front by jockey Eibar Coa. Racing on the rail, she took the lead from Summer Shenanigans before the final turn and pulled away to win by two lengths. Summer Shenanigans held the place by a neck from Caty's Quest.

Stormy Pick ($3.20) ran the six furlongs in 1:09.54.
