Stormin the Jewels won his second consecutive stakes race in New Mexico on Sunday, when he held off Forger by a length in the $75,000 Casino at the Downs at Albuquerque Derby. One start prior, Stormin the Jewels won the $50,000 Road Runner Handicap at Ruidoso Downs. The Casino at the Downs at Albuquerque Derby was a 6 1/2-furlong race restricted to 3-year-olds bred in New Mexico. Stormin the Jewels ($4) was always prominent, taking control of his rivals through a half-mile in 43.84 seconds. He went on to cover the distance on a fast track in 1:15.67. Enrique Gomez was aboard for trainer Fred Danley. Stormin the Jewels is a son of Attila’s Storm. He races for J & SM, Inc.
