Stormello best in Norfolk BC

ARCADIA, Calif. - Stormello, third in two graded stakes at Del Mar, is bound for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs on Nov. 4 after winning Sunday's $247,000 at the Oak Tree at Santa Anita meeting.

Ridden by Kent Desormeaux, Stormello ($25.80) ran 1 11-6 miles in 1:43.10, outlasting 9-5 Principle Secret in a stretch-long duel. Spot the Diplomat finished third in the field of nine.

Owned by Al Eisman and trainer Bill Currin, Stormello was fourth early and won by a neck. The Stormy Atlantic colt has won two of five starts and $230,200.

Horse Greeley, the winner of the Del Mar Futurity last month, dropped back to last after racing wide on the first turn and never reached contention, finishing seventh. He was third in the Best Pal Stakes and Del Mar Futurity during the summer.

*Mistical Plan ($5.80) became a candidate for the $125,000 California Cup Juvenile Fillies here on Oct. 28 after a convincing win in the $72,540 Cover Gal Stakes. The 2-year-old filly ran seven furlongs in 1:22.65.
