Storm Cat mare leads Fasig-Tipton

LEXINGTON, Ky. - As of 4:30 p.m., a $190,000 Storm Cat mare was the sale-leader at Fasig-Tipton Kentucky's single-session winter mixed auction on Monday in Lexington.

Bluegrass Thoroughbred Services, agent, purchased the 11-year-old mare named Joying, who was carrying a foal by Old Trieste, whose first foals are yearlings this year. The mare already is the dam of Finn McCool, a stakes-placed winner by Meadowlake.

David and Ginger Mullins's Doninga, agent, consigned the mare, who was twice third in Golden Gate's Champagne Shower Stakes.

Bluegrass Thoroughbred Services, acting as agent for Stoneway LLC, later sold the auction's only other Storm Cat offering - the 8-year-old mare One Lucky Cat carrying an Afternoon Deelites foal - for $28,000 to Heiligbrodt Racing Stable.

The auction was to continue into Monday evening, with a Stallion Access auction of seasons and shares to follow at the winter mixed sale's conclusion..
