Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Stopchargingmaria has been booked to Pioneerof the Nile for her first season as a broodmare, joining an outstanding book of mares committed to the young classic sire.

Stopchargingmaria, by Tale of the Cat, sold for $2.8 million to Goncalo Torrealba of Three Chimneys Farm as a broodmare prospect last month at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall selected mixed sale.

Racing from ages 2 through 5, Stopchargingmaria won or placed in 13 stakes, with Grade 1 triumphs in the 2015 BC Distaff at Keeneland over that year’s 3-year-old filly champion Stellar Wind and in the 2014 Alabama Stakes and Coaching Club American Oaks, both at Saratoga. She retired in September with earnings of more than $3 million.

“She beat a litany of fillies in the Distaff that were just incredible,” Three Chimneys director of bloodstock services Jacob West said. “The race record speaks for itself, the pedigree speaks for itself. Tale of the Cat has gotten off to a phenomenal start as a broodmare sire, so we’re just excited to have her.”

Pioneerof the Nile, sire of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah and this year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner, Classic Empire, stands at WinStar Farm. His book for 2017 also includes Love the Chase, dam of Horse of the Year California Chrome, and Kentucky Oaks heroine Cathryn Sophia.
