Stonestreet, Coolmore partner to buy Uncle Mo colt

Uncle Mo's colt out of Five Star Dream tied for the fastest time in The Florida Sale under-tack show, running one furlong in 10 seconds. He sold for $1 million Wednesday night.

Barbara Banke’s Stonestreet Farm has been a willing partner at auction to secure the right horse, joining forces with the likes of Gainesway, Spendthrift Farm, and the former Regis Farm to close bids at past auctions.

On Wednesday, Banke further strengthened her ties with the Coolmore partnership, teaming up to buy an Uncle Mo colt early in the sale for $1 million. Uncle Mo stands at Coolmore’s Ashford Stud in Versailles, Ky.

The two major entities also joined forces at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Florida sale to secure a $900,000 Bernardini colt who would go on to become Fountain of Youth runner-up Zulu. Todd Pletcher trains Zulu for Stonestreet and Coolmore, who made him the second-most-expensive offering of the 2015 Florida sale.

The Uncle Mo colt turned in one of the most impressive performances of the pre-sale under-tack show, tying the fastest time of 10 seconds for one furlong. He is out of the Two Punch mare Five Star Dream and was consigned as agent by Cary Frommer.

"He's a beautiful horse,” said Stonestreet bloodstock adviser John Moynihan. “For as big as he is, he's amazingly fast, he's amazingly athletic. He covers so much ground when he runs, and he does it fast.”
